Fixing Connection Issues with Social Media Platforms

When TrollWall AI loses connection to your Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok accounts, you'll see a yellow warning sign next to the Social Accounts button and at the specific affected account. Don't worry—reconnecting is straightforward.

Quick Fix

To reconnect your account:

  1. Navigate to Social Accounts

  2. Find the account with the yellow warning sign

  3. Click the warning message (e.g., "Facebook connection issue detected. Click here to reconnect")

  4. Follow the authorization prompts to grant TrollWall AI access again

That's it! Your account should reconnect immediately and resume normal operation.

Why Connection Issues Happen

Understanding why connections break helps prevent future disruptions:

Security expiration: Connections created long ago expire automatically as a security measure by social media platforms. This is normal platform behavior designed to protect your accounts.

Admin status changes: If the person who originally connected your account to TrollWall lost admin rights on the social media platform, the platform automatically invalidates the connection. Only users with admin access can maintain active integrations.

Password changes: When the connecting user changes their password on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok, the platform may revoke third-party app access as a security precaution.

Suspicious activity detection: Social media platforms monitor for unusual behavior. If they detect something suspicious on the account that created the connection, they may temporarily restrict or revoke app access.

Permission revocation: If someone manually removed TrollWall AI's access through platform settings (Facebook Business Integrations, for example), the connection breaks.

Platform policy updates: Occasionally, social media platforms update their API policies or requirements, which can affect existing connections.

Preventing Connection Issues

While some connection breaks are unavoidable, you can minimize disruptions:

  • Maintain admin status for users who connected accounts to TrollWall

  • Avoid removing TrollWall from your social media platform's connected apps list

  • Keep your TrollWall team informed about password changes on social media accounts

  • Monitor for platform notifications about app access or security alerts

Important: While disconnected, TrollWall AI cannot monitor or moderate new comments on your social media account. Once reconnected, protection resumes immediately for new comments going forward. Your historical TrollWall data, settings, and previously moderated comments remain intact.

Verifying Successful Reconnection

After reconnecting, confirm everything works properly:

  • Yellow warning signs disappear from Social Accounts section

  • New comments appear in TrollWall within expected timeframes:

    • Facebook & Instagram: Within seconds

    • TikTok: Within 15 minutes

    • YouTube: Within 1 hour

  • Actions work correctly: Test hiding a comment or replying to verify functionality

Platform-Specific Notes

Facebook & Instagram

Both platforms use Meta's permission system. If you're experiencing repeated connection issues with Instagram, ensure your Instagram Business account is properly linked to your Facebook Page through Facebook Business Suite.

TikTok

TikTok connections may be more sensitive to security checks due to platform restrictions. If reconnection doesn't work immediately, wait 15 minutes and try again.

When to Contact Support

Reach out if:

  • Reconnection attempts fail repeatedly

  • Warning signs persist after successful reconnection

  • Comments stop appearing despite active connection status

  • You receive specific error messages during reconnection

Contact support with:

  • Screenshots of warning messages or errors

  • Platform affected (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok)

  • When the issue first appeared

  • Any recent changes to your social media accounts

Remember: Connection issues are temporary and easily resolved. The reconnection process takes less than a minute and doesn't affect your TrollWall configuration or historical data.
